Ever since the North Stars made their run to the Stanley Cup Finals in the spring of 1991, I have had a great love for playoff hockey. One of the greatest sports moments in my adult life has been the Andrew Brunette goal for the Minnesota Wild, as they defeated the Colorado Avalanche in in overtime of Game 7 during the 2003 playoffs. Take a look…
That was one of the greatest sports moments in my adult life. It is solely due to the fact that the NHL Playoffs may be the best playoff system in all of sports. No one gets a first round bye. If it’s tied at the end it goes to sudden death. And home ice advantage means nearly nothing.
The way they settle a tie in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is my favorite part though. There are not many other situations in watching sports where one feels as tense as a fan does throughout an entire overtime session. Every touch of the puck, every shot, every rebound is important in sudden death. It’s enough to keep a fan like myself clenched in nervousness. Being that I am a Wild fan, the current series with the Avs that has shown us three OTs in the first three games, has made the series tough to beat.
The NFL is by far my favorite sport, and I only follow the NHL casually throughout the year. But, the quest for Lord Stanley’s Cup is without a doubt THE BEST playoff series in professional sports.

WOW we finally agree on something when it comes to sports. I wont forget watching that game. Im being hopeful for this year Wild in 7 against the Avs, but I think Theodore is to good and the Wild have ran out of gas.
