Danica vs. Dale: Who Serves Racing Better?

VERSUS

So, who is the better individual to help further the entity that is auto racing?  Is it Danica Patrick or Dale Earnhardt Jr.?

I would like to know, so please enlighten me hillbillies…  If auto racing is a sport, do you accept the fact that a woman (Danica Patrick, who won her first race on Sunday in Japan) can be as good, if not better than a man?

In most other actual sports, mens and womens leagues are kept separate due to the fact that biologically men are stronger muscularly than women.

If you indeed believe that anyone from either gender has the ability to be the best racer in the world, do you think that genders should be mixed within other sports too?  Should the top WNBA players be given the opportunity to join the NBA?  Should women be preferred by racing leagues because of their marketability to other demographics (mainly other women that NASCAR doesn’t capture)? And if said female is considered “pretty,” it could mean that they are marketable to men for different reasons (e.g. do a google image search for Danica Patrick, and see what the first 20 pics are).  Would you be comfortable seeing a NASCAR covered in Tampax, Monistat, or Victoria’s Secret decals?  This could mean a change of everything you left-turning hicks love!

Or, if you believe that men are superior athletes, and becuase you still think drivers are athletes, they are therefore superior behind the wheel.  This would have you believing that Danica is just a freak of nature?  NASCAR is perfect as is, and 98% of the drivers will remain men, because men are simply better at driving.

So, which box would you like to get put into?  Are you in favor of making NASCAR a more feminine-influenced entity?  Or are you a sexist chauvinist pig?  This is open for discussion!

  1. This may come as a surprise to you that do know me, but if the “HOT” Danica Patrick wants to race and leave all the other boys in her dust then more power to her. Why not!
Personally I think if a woman wants to compete in any sport that is more geared toward men, then why not. Here is a mock draft for you #1 Melissa H #2 Jenna B #3 Jenna G #4 Heidi??
Just remember even though it isn’t a professional sport a women outlasted a bunch of guys in backyard football last fall.

If Im beat buy in a girl in a kind of competition then Im beat there will be another day.

Dale vs. Danica ??????? Who knows, but I’ll watch

  2. Being that this page is a bit biased to the Midwest, (flyover country for a change) it is sure to come with some very personal references. Granted, I know #1 88 Fan, and I consider him a friend. To that I give you this quote from Billy Madison…

“What you just said, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. People in this room are now dumber, for having to listen to that.”

    1. You classified yourself by calling Danica HOT. What if she was completely unattractive? Would that change your support?

    2. What the hell is your mock draft thingy? It’s true, we know all of those women! Huh?

    3. Was I invited to this backyard football game? Women were involved in said game, but in what way did they outlast the men?

    4. “If Im beat buy in a girl in a kind of competition then Im beat there will be another day.” WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!?!

Either way, are you prepared to wear a Midol hat when Dale Jr. loses his Mountian Dew sponsorship?

  3. 1. NO my mind would not change she is hot and thats that.Any women that can drive 200 mph is hot in my mind.

    2. I was just trying to be funny, I don’t understand your big thing about mock drafts. Like it really matters the Vikings always screw up there draft picks.

    3. Yeah do you remember during the fantasy football draft, in your back yard your wife outlasted us all.

    4. Let me rephrase that. ” When playing a competitive sport or a game and my opponent is that of a different sex and i end up losing I wont make that big of a deal about it. You win some you lose some

  4. There is no way that the hillbillies in NASCAR would accept a woman winning. They can’t accept the fact that Jeff Gordon wins. If your not into a NASCAR family or put in your dues for a million years you will never be accepted by all ye NASCAR faithful. Looks and ability have nothing to do with it. I personally could care left if I see a pink my little pony car turning left. It is all to boring in about 30 seconds. I would have to agree with the smooth one on this 88. Your making an opinion for all NASCAR kind not just yourself.

  5. Personal feelings aside, I don’t think the good ol’ boys club that is NASCAR would allow a woman to become part of the royalty. By royalty I mean the families of Earnhardt, Waltrip, Petty, etc. The sport is way too much about who you know than how fast you can drive.

Case in point, the Dale Earnhardt Jr. (OVERRATED AND LACKING A PERSONALITY), Michael Waltrip (UNTALENTED AND A CHEATER), Kyle Petty (DOES HE STILL RACE? HE’S LIVING ON HIS DAD’s GOOD NAME).

If any of these drivers had the last name of Harrison, Cofield or Naspinski, they would not be driving around in a circle for millions of dollars. They would be driving around in a circle looking for a parking spot at Target.

  6. The boys may be living on there fathers good names Dale, Darryl, and Richard. Say what you want about Jr. I don’t see how he is overrated being one of only 3 people to win the Gatorade 250 the Busch race ( Nationwide) and the 500 in the same year!! Waltrip, yes he did cheat and there no going around that. Untalented ?? He won the Super Bowl of motor racing ( Daytona) As for Kyle maybe the overrated from Jr. and Untalented from Waltrip that would equal Petty, but the last name is doing him well.
If the opportunity was there for me to go drive NASCAR then I would be up and gone to do that, but for know driving around in circles at Target is what I’m going to have to live with.

  7. This isn’t even worth my time or breath. Anyone that knows anything about the “So Called” sport knows Danica good wipe her A** with Dale Jr.

  8. Smooth Mat

Testosterone is a male sex hormone that is associated with aggression (Aronson: 462). There have been several studies on animals and humans that demonstrate the link between increased levels of testosterone and increased aggressiveness. According to these findings, it can be safe to assume that men are more aggressive than females, in fact, there is evidence that supports this notion. What remains uncertain is whether this difference is attributed only to biological differences or to social learning differences as well. After all, we do live in a society based heavily upon stereotypes and sex-roles where women are seen as more nurturing and less assertive than men. With that being said I proposed a hypothesis that males would be more aggressive drivers than females. Yet I have done my research online and viewed many studies and surveys done on driving. One website states that there is no research to conclude that one gender is a better driver than another. Yet, that same website also states that insurance companies still base prices on the drivers gender. It just proves that we still live in a world where womans rights are still over shadowed by male pig headed sterotypes.

  9. yet I do feel that if a woman would like to compete then more power to them.

  10. I hate to inform you all a women has already graced her presence in the sport. Her name is Chrissy Wallace she drives the #03 Geico Toyota truck the the truck series.

  11. I would say that Danica could not only compete but as jetleaf said she could kick his untalented ass all the way back to North Carolina or where ever the hell he comes from. NASCAR will hold Danica at bay as long as possible to prevent this shame. Can it also be said that if driving a car is a sport then many of the soccer moms zooming to wherever there kids need to be are also fantastic athletes? Break down the stereotypes and let women drive. One last point who gives a rats behind about the truck series. That’s like making a big deal about the minor leagues. No one cares until you make it to the big time.

  12. There seems to be some stong feelings out there about wome drivers in NASCAR. I’m going to do a 180 and share a point that was brough to my attention today. Why is it that NASCAR drivers are always rearending each other? Bump drafting? Why is a race for the pole? Couldn’t it be a race to see who starts first? This was just an observation that I overheard today. I don’t know if it plays into the Danica vs Dale argument but it might.

  13. If nascar is being considered a sport, than lets also take a look at driving a scooter, motorcycle or any matchbox size car in a highly populated metro area. The risk and likely hood of a sever accident are much great and you are considered a winner just to make it home.

  14. “stuck in the 80’s” I but if someone were to have the time to research this, we would find that 90% of Nascar drivers also wrestled as a high school sport.

  15. As a life-long Nascar enthusiast, I find it disappointing that this topic has free fallen into a bunch of homophobic jokes and innuendos. Danica, although seen as a pretty face for the most part, has some quality racing in her. It would be a boon to Nascar if they could woo her to join their ranks, and yes smoothmat, she would bring a vastly different clientele to the television sets every weekend. Not that millions of women don’t watch anyway, but this could be a way for the gender-equity loving feminists to embrace a sport.

Yes indeed, Nascar is a sport, and virtually the only sport that a woman could compete on the same playing field as a man, with little to no handicap. Danica could bring huge sponsorships to Nascar that right now would not be seen as kosher for the sport. This could mean billions of dollars poured into the business of racing, and could solidify it as the #1 spectator sport in not only America, but the world.

This article poses the question Danica vs. Dale: Who serves racing better? The answer to that question is easily Danica. Although Danica just won her first race, she has achieved her status in the world of auto racing from both her racing ability and her marketability. Junior, on the other hand has made it this far in the sport due only to the seed he was spawned from.

Had his father not died in turn four at Daytona, he would most likely still be intimidating racers across the country, and his son would be seen as the kid who could never live up to his old man. Dale Jr. has been a vast disappointment to his family’s legacy, and as a fan of the old Hendrick Motorsports team, I truly wish that a great racer, such as Danica, would take Junior’s position on the team. Imagine a team of Danica, Gordon, and Johnson! They would seem nearly unstoppable from a racing and personality standpoint.

  16. COW BOPPER: We obviously have different opinions on NASCAR’s sport status, but one thing I completely agree with you on is the giant DUH that surrounds Dale Earnhardt Jr.s life. Junior is not only the worst racer on an ALL STAR team, but he is the least personable. Why NASCAR continues to put him in front of the camera is beyond me. He has no personality or energy, and I think I have seen interviews with dogs that have been much more interesting.

I would rather see the trainwreck that is Lindsey Lohan driving Herbie the Love Bug than listen to Junior whine about track conditions, his teammates not helping him, or anything else that prevents his last name from winning. Dude, we know who your father was, try making a name for yourself instead of relying on NASCAR and Will Ferrell to hand you a personality!

#1 88 fan should spend more time supporting a truly GREAT driver who has won multiple championships, such as Junior’s teammates Jeff Gordon or Jimmy Johnson, or at the least cheer for Kyle Busch whose psychotic on-track antics actually make it somewhat entertaining to watch for a split second.

  17. Can’t we all just get along? These are two different people in two different categories of auto racing. Danica races Indy and Dale races Nascar. They both are stars in their own right. They both bring something to the sport of auto racing. Guys like Danica and girls like Dale.
Ok, now that I have said the politically correct statement.

I have a question for all you guys out there; Do you think Danica Patrick it hot? She’s the first female Indy driver to win a race.
Have you seen the “at home with Danica Patrick” talk show spoof Video? Do you think she looks hot in that Blue dress. Check it out and you tell me; Is she Hot or Not?
